A bench and desk emerge from horizontal, curvilinear planes and then recede back to the wall. At the roof of the structure, there is an oculus, a window to the sky that allows sunlight to penetrate the pod, accentuating the sense of verticality. The transparency of the pod allows light to enter continuously. The relationship between the vertical and horizontal members allow for a shifting array of sunlight to enter the pod depending on the time of day as the sun travels east to west. There are many concepts that went into the pod, and some became more successful than others, as this was an intense five week group project that allowed for an exploration of form, performance, and challenge any preconceived ideas about the definition of a pod. Through the design process, the group defined the pod as a space that removes the user from context by using the sites characteristics as the essence of experience.
